The Infinitude of God

Thursday night Kathy and Roman both told me that when they were in Athens for the marathon last week, they saw a man that looked just like me; he talked like me and had mannerisms just like me. My response was, "No wonder I felt so tired last weekend. It takes a lot of energy to be in two places at once!" How unlike God I am. Today in Sunday school I taught about the infinitude of God. Part of his infinitude is his omnipresence. What is meant by God's omnipresence is that he is personally present everywhere in the universe. And it is not like light that is diffused through space. It is not just some effect produced by him that is present everywhere. It is not that a portion of God is everywhere. He is present everywhere. Jesus said, "where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them." (Matthew 18:20) The amazing thing about this is that God is personally present with everyone who calls upon his name, that he is completely attentive to their prayers and their every circumstance, and it is no burden whatsoever to God because He is infinite. That's a big comfort to me.

"The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us." (Acts 17:24-28)
