My plan for Thursday evening was to run 9 miles at Boston marathon qualifying pace. For me that is about 8:14 per mile. Here are my mile splits:
1 - 9:23 (warm up)
2 - 7:56 (not quite a mile)
3 - 8:14
4 - 8:10
5 - 8:14
6 - 8:16
7 - 8:05
8 - 8:03 (not quite a mile)
9 - 7:17 (fast finish)
I think I did pretty well on judging my pace; I was just a little slow on mile 6 and a little fast on mile 7, but the rest were about right. I was happy with the run. I don't think I'm quite ready to keep that pace for the whole marathon, but I am confident that eventually I will be there.

I'm not sure I'd want to run 1 mile at that pace - let alone 26.2!
Are you going to try to qualify at Route 66? Or do you have another race picked out?
Good Luck with your training!
P.S. I was wrong about last night! The meter went up - probably shouldn't have had that last bite of fiesta dip!
I'm not planning on qualifying this fall. Maybe at OKC next spring, or possibly at Steamtown or some other marathon next fall. My goal is to qualify for the 2010 Boston Marathon. My goal for Rt 66 this year is 3:45. I think I can do that.
Wow - it just occurred to me that I may not be able to go to OKC next year - especially if the weather was like it was this year - YUCK!!
Hopefully everything works out and Randy, Baby, and I can be there to cheer you on!! I'm sure my momma will want to go too!
Pretty fast miles, Dave. I had mentioned that I needed to run 8:20s in my half this Saturday. That is what I'd have to run to PR. Actually, I'd be glad to run 9s which would get me under 2 hours. I think that is possible, but a PR is out of the question.
Wow dave, you're zipping right along. You will finish the marathon almost twice as fast as me. Maybe if I was that skinny guy I used to be (see Susan's blog
http://susansworldablogaboutnothing.blogspot.com/) maybe I could keep up.
Candice, I'm sure you will be out there burning up the trails as soon as you can get your baby in a stroller. Sorry 'bout the puke counter.
TZ, you can definitely break 2 hrs.
Bobby, I had already looked at Susan's blog and wondered who that guy was with Susan. I guess either you ate too many of your own pizzas or Susan's cooking must be really good!
Actually the pictures reminded me a lot of when Marilyn and I got married just over 26 years ago (that's a marathon of marriage). Similar glasses, similar hair length, similar skinniness.
BTW, I'm not sure who is to blame for tomorrow's hilly course, but I'm thinking of wearing a down with Kathy T-shirt.
Speedy Gonzales! :) Glad you are enjoying it. I did 1 mile today at the "Race for the Cure" and.....I sweat! You'd think walking 1 mile in 35 minutes wouldn't be a workout, but it was! :( I'm a long ways from my marathon days! :(
A report on my blog is soon to follow. I did indeed break 2 hours in the half today. My time was 1:53:43 according to my Garmin. I am stoked!
